Fort Berens Estate Winery 'Red Gold' Reserve, British Columbia
Readers rated this wine:
Silky, supple, woven.
All the fruit for this wine (Merlot 65%, Cabernet Franc 35%) comes from the Fort Berens estate vineyard in the Fraser Canyon, in Lillooet.
It was made in the appassimento style, whereby a portion of the grapes were dried to add intensity. It was then aged in barrel and then bottle before its recent in November 2019
Expect smoked spies, blackberry and black currents, espresso and dark cocoa, dry earth, tobacco and hints of star anise. It has a silky texture and glycerol-type weight with woven flavours of dried fruit, mocha and charred tobacco--the finish is slightly sharp and it comes in pretty hot at almost 15% alcohol.
